My email account is down once again. So I can't post the email verbatim, but i'd like to alert everyone that there's a political mess surrounding the father's day brewer's festival that has been held the last few years at St. Edward's Park. In the past, the event at St. Edward's park was co-sponsored by the Washington Brewer's Guild. They had a company, whose name I don't remember, promote the event. That company ended up getting a multi-year lease on the park for Father's day, and pretty much screwed and shut out the WBG.
The WBG cannot stop the promoters of the St. Edwards event from purchasing their kegs on the market and serving it at this event, but it is not supported by them, to say the least. The WBG has started a competing event the same weekend, to be held at the Seattle Center Fisher Pavillion lawn.
They recommend that if you want to support Washington craft brewers, that you boycott the St. Edwards event, and attend the Seattle Center event. And that you encourage others to do the same. The website for the WBG event is www.washingtonbeer.com/wabf.htm Seriously, let people know that even though the venue is the same, that the father's day event has changed, and they shouldn't give the usurpers any money.
Father's day and the fremont solstice parade fall on the same weekend this year, so I doubt that I'll actually be able to get down there. I'll be cooking and hosting a party on Saturday, and cleaning and nursing a severe hangover on Sunday. But I will try to get down there and show my support. I sure like the idea of hopping on a bus rather than driving, or taking 4 busses, over to the east side. So for Seattle beer snobs, the political mess is a boon, in that we can enjoy the festival in our town, instead of in the burbs.

Re: Father's day beer festival
Wed, August 16, 2006 - 8:11 PMWe went on Saturday, and while it was not as fun as the St. Edwards event, it was still very enjoyable. I hope that next year, with less controversy and better planning, it will be bigger and better than ever. Go WBG! -

Re: Father's day beer festival
Thu, August 17, 2006 - 12:48 AMI was talking to the Diamond Knot folks at a brewer's night a couple of weeks ago, and they were pretty miffed at the seattle center. I guess there were a number of poor communication events that made it very hard to work with Seattle Center, capped by Seattle Center deciding the day before the event not to let kids into the beer area. The DK kids said that they weren't going back to Seattle Center, and that their take on the vibe in the WBG was that most brewers also didn't want to deal with seattle center again. the DK folks thoguht another park might happen (I suggested Gasworks, which would rock), or that control of St. Edwards might go back to WBG by next year. I guess that's still not resolved. I don't know. It didn't seem like it was resolved based on the comment from DK.
